Analysis of Developing Adventure Tourism in India

Abstract

India is a country with unity in diversity. It has rich heritage in culture, religion, natural resources. Grand View Research and other reports indicate that India has several factors favouring adventure tourism. Some of them include: Himalayan ranges, rivers, forts, coastal line are favourable for adventure tourism in India. According to Govt. of India Report (2022), Foreign exchange earnings (FEE) from tourism were $8.797 billion in 2021, up from $6.958 billion in 2020, representing a 26.4% increase. It plays a crucial role in regional balance, socio-economic development, employment generation, community development and infrastructure development attracting domestic as well as international tourists. The present article aims to examine the adventure tourism in India and analyze the major factors responsible for the growth and adventure tourism development in India. It also studies the various emerging trends, patterns of tourism, tourists in India and the world respectively. This study employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to great effect. Focus groups are a common method of gathering first-hand information in qualitative research. We drew on an extensive range of secondary sources, counting but not restricted to national and international travel periodicals and journals, national and international organization statistics, and a number of books and research papers devoted to the topic of adventure travel.
