A Correlational Study on The Effects of Parenting Styles, Emotional Intelligence and Social Media Usage Among the Youths of Mumbai Suburbs
Main Article Content
Abstract
Parenting styles in India may be categorised into two categories: traditional and modern. Different degrees of emotional expressiveness, warmth, and control may be seen in both strategies. Parents are crucial in influencing their children's emotional development and emotional intelligence since they serve as their children's primary socializers. Previous studies have connected how parents nurture their kids to how well they can regulate their emotions. Young adults spend a lot of time online communicating, producing, and consuming material, thus it is important to consider how emotional control and intellect play a role in determining how they behave on social media.
In this study, emotional intelligence serves as a mediating variable to examine the association between traditional and contemporary Indian parenting methods and social media use among young Indian individuals aged 21 to 30 in the city of Mumbai. The study explores how diverse values, views, communication styles, degrees of control, autonomy, and warmth received by individuals from their parents effect their social media usage and behaviour through the investigation of emotional intelligence as a mediating factor. The goal of the study is to identify any connections that may exist between responsible social media use and parenting.
