Women and Violence: A Decadal Review of Crimes, Reforms and Realities in India
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research paper looks at the complex nature of crimes against women in India. It focuses on the causes, structural factors, and the weaknesses of current prevention methods. Despite years of social progress and increasing discussions about gender equality, Indian women still face violence and oppression that threaten their safety, dignity, and equal standing in society. The study takes a three-part approach: comparing India's challenges to those of other countries, analysing regional differences and socio-political variations, and evaluating legal measures, reforms, and government initiatives aimed at reducing violence against women. It also points out ongoing issues in policy design, enforcement, and public awareness that weaken the effectiveness of these efforts. Beyond describing the situation, this paper offers practical policy recommendations that tackle systemic problems and call for long-term changes. The research aims to raise awareness about the alarming increase in crimes against women and show how deeply these crimes are rooted in socio-economic, cultural, political, and legal systems that need urgent attention.
